Surfing at Tynemouth, Sunday August 19th

Post by pete »

August's day activity will be a day of surfing and bodyboarding at Tynemouth. A few of use have bodyboards, and you can hire surfboards from Tynemouth Surf Co. See their website at
http://www.tynemouthsurf.co.uk/home.htm

Some of us will be just hiring boards (and wetsuits). The Surf Co also do good instruction either for groups or individuals for anyone interested on a first come first served basis.

Oh, and the day? Sunday 19th August.
The beach cafe also does good hot chocolate for that cool apres surf vibe dude. 8)

Put your name below if u r interested. We'll arrange things with the Surf Co once we know numbers..

:D :D :D Yipee :D :D :D Sounds great fun. I'm certainly interested. Would do group lesson if there is enough interest or either hire a bodyboard or bring boat and do a bit of canoe surfing.

Roll on the 19th :P

Imogen - You are welcome to come along. I will be giving the surf people a ring today to sort things out.
Daniel - the boards/ fins may be useful - will be in touch if we need them.

The hire shop has loads of stuff - it's not pre-bookable though so I suggest we head down to Tynemouth for about 10am to make sure we get boards etc. Boards are £8 for 3 hours, wetsuits the same price.

I suggest we meet outside the shop at 10am on Grand Parade in Tynemouth (see their website for details - link above).

Changing facilities are behind a curtain with a sandy floor at the back of the surf hut - best to have swimming things on beforehand.

Unfortunately there are only 2 spaces left for lessons - and that is at 3pm.
Those that wanted lessons could just hire stuff and get a few pointers off everyone else (none us us have had more than a couple of lessons anyway).

Anyone who has got a bodyboard - bring that too.. and beach games in case there is no surf... :P

I have found that the 'Push' (when the tide starts coming in) is about 1pm on Sunday. This is the best (and safest) time for surfing so I suggest a change of plan and meet about 12.30 at the surf shop.

That also means chance for a lie in. :D

Pete,

If the climbing trip to the Langdales falls through and there is enough swell to make a trip through worthwhile I'd be more than happy to give those of you with little or no experience a few pointers. I've surfed since I was around 14 and though I'm not fantastic by any means I could defo point you all in the right direction as well as going over some basic safety stuff with you.

I'll let you know when I know.
