BMC reduced rate Mountain Skills course Summer 2014.

Post by phil »

Registered your interest in a Mountain Skills course.

Can you look through the following and confirm if you would be interested/not interest in this course, I would appreciate an response straight away so we can finalise BMC funding. If this course is to proceed we will need your fees once the date has been been agreed, eg fees in May 2014 course in July 2014.

The Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for walkers interested in applying their countryside walking skills to the mountain environment. Ideally, participants would have done some basic hill walking previously and have a reasonable level of fitness. Skills in map and compass, mountain weather forecasting, movement through steep ground, planning and preparation, emergency procedures, seasonal effects and the mountain environment all form the syllabus of this course. The course is run in the main high mountain areas (Lakes / Pennies).

The courses aims to equip you with the basic knowledge and safety skills required to participate in hill and mountain, as the course will be just for our club then the content can be varied to concentrate on particular skills, eg navigation. We will be able to obtain part funding from the BMC and obtain a DMS club discount - this will make the course cheaper than you can book directly.

Course duration: 2 consecutive days
Course fee: £65-80 (full cost is £96, BMC/DMS discount will reduce this by approx £20-30 depending upon numbers)
Registration fee: £20
Accommodation: not included, suggest camping
Food: not included
Location: Lakes
Courses have a maximum participant number of 16 /min 4 - with a tutor/client ratio of a maximum of 1:8
