Hi All,
As some of you may know, I'm a keen scuba diver and last year also completed my one and two star freediving qualifications. For anyone who's unsure, freediving is diving on a single breath.
When I was looking for an instructor, all recommendations seemed to point to one man; Steve Millard. Steve is probably the best freediving instructor in the country, has a background in scuba, is a BSAC instructor and used to be on the British freediving squad. He is now on the AIDA (international governing body) education board and an international AIDA judge. His knowledge and instruction are fantastic and he had me holding my breath for almost 3 minutes in my first pool session and diving to 20 meters in open water on my second time out.
Steve has offered to run a dry introductory session, covering an introduction to freediving, physiology, breathing techniques and the freediving disciplines including some videos and practical instruction in the Newcastle area.
As he's based in Manchester, he'd need to cover the costs of coming up to run the session, but doesn't want to turn a profit on it.
This post is really just to gage interest; can anyone who would be interested in this, and be prepared to pay a small fee to cover Steve's costs (about a tenner) please let me know and we can get the ball rolling. I've sent a similar email to the members of my dive club.
This is a great opportunity to understand how freediving works and might even give you the bug to get into the chilly British waters. The lakes offer some great sites for diving.
If there is enough interest, Steve has also offered to come up and run a wet session to follow on from this in open water at somewhere like the Lake District or one of the local dive sites. .
Please let me know if you'd be interested,
Thanks!
J.
