Hi, a couple of us had thought about trying to squeeze in a days climbing at Scugdale near Swainby , weather dependant on Sat 4th Feb. If the weather is no good for climbing, an alternative would be to go for a walk or cycle ride near Osmotherley, on the Cleveland Way. We could finish up with either a beer in Osmotherley or a small tour of a micro brewery at a nearby converted manor house with a 3 course meal included for about £17.
Let me know if any of these options would be of interest to anyone. We wont know about the feasibility of the climbing until 2 or 3 days beforehand.
Cheers
George

Hi there George,
I'm certainly up for a climb at Scug at the weekend and if the weathers nae good am happy to just mosey along and have a gander and a walk. Or something like that.
So will see what the weather's up to nearer the time and chuck the gear in the car. Can also bring the crash mat if anyone wants to boulder/solo?
Will be in touch nearer the time.
Mike

Hi All,
Yes, that forecast is looking good, so for all you people holding off and not quite sure where or what here's a quick rundown!
"Scugdale is one of the most popular venues in the NE Guidebook, 5 mins from the road, south facing sunny aspect and quick drying, good quality sandstone at an altitude of 320m, so an ideal all year location. Over 250 climbs of all standards, from 3 to 10m height, so something for everyone.
Access is from the A19 if you're coming down from Durham. Take the A172 to Swainby and drive through the village till just outside and take the left to lead through the ford to Huthwaite Green and into Scugdale. The crag is 4.5km beyond Swainby at the end of a narrow road, so take care! Park considerately in the small lay-by below the crag, just before Scugdale Hall Nursery."
And we'll meet you there. Say 11.00am?
So what more do you need to get out and enjoy yourself?! If anyone wants to go walkabout instead we can just meet up later in the pub or somesuch hostelry. Come on, you know you want it!
Cheers,
Mike
