DMS Xmas Social for discussion.

Post by Wendy Lynch »

The proposed DMS Xmas Social night is planned for Saturday 17th December at the Bridge Hotel in Durham. Normally the staff will arrange for an area in the pub to be for DMS use only. People arrive and book food individually. No set xmas menu, just food from the normal bar menu.

It has been suggested that we have a "Xmas Pub Orienteering" night (using the route Badger has).

I've discussed this with Sam and we thought it would be a good idea to see how other DMS members wanted to celebrate the festive period.

So here are some ideas:

1. Have social at Bridge Hotel on 17th December and have pub orienteering on another evening in December.

2. Have pub orienteering on 17th December and not have social at Bridge Hotel.

3. Have social at Bridge Hotel on 17th Decemeber and have pub orienteering in January 12.

4. Have social at Bridge Hotel on 17th December and pub orienteering in between Xmas and New Year.

Please let Sam and myself know what you would like, if you have alternative suggestions please let us know.

Thanks

Wendy

Oh Dear Wendy / Sam - you've opened a can of worms here - i can see whats going to happen :-) i hope there's one clear winner.

Hmmmmm - half a dozen options between 50 plus club members , well i'm not sure i'd get to a pub orienteering event but i'm going to vote for option 3.

Hi all,

Just to say that the Pub Orienteering I have devised does not require an OS map or compass. Just your selves and an adventurous spirit :) On the night you'll be given simple map showing selected pubs in durham, and a sheet of photo's to match to each pub, selecting a pre-determined letter form the words of each pub, will spell out an anagram, the first team to get to the finish with the solved anagram will be the winner :D

Some prizes are in the bag for the winners - don't get excited, nothing expensive :D

I suggest if we have a Christmas social in December, we do the PO in another month? But happy to go along with the consensus :)

Mark

We'll have the DMS Xmas Social Night at the Bridge Hotel on Saturday 17th December and if Mark would be kind enough to organise a Pub Orienteering Night for January.

Hope this is okay with folks.

Wendy :)

I'd go for xmas do in the Bridge and pub orienteering night another time. To throw open a bigger can of worms I'd suggest pub orienteering nearer spring time when my finances have recovered and there's less chance of having to stagger round Durham in snow and ice
