The Weardale Ski Club Ltd
We will be skiing yet again tomorrow - getting a bit boring these reports - same old great snow cover. Wednesday will mark our 11th day skiing out of the last 13 with no signs of the snow going and temperatures predicted to fall as low as -9 this weekend and scattered snow showers all this week - it is snowing as I write this report. Conditions are reported to be very good still with all runs open and plenty of off piste skiing. We are getting very short of volunteers to keep the place running and would welcome offers from people wanting to help - if you are keen to give up an hour or so of skiing to help out please approach one of us on the slopes or email me.
A word of warning about the road - the deeply rutted patch remains as it proved impossible to clear even with a pick-axe and needs to be taken very cautiously. It is strongly recomended to use chains at the moment unless you have 4WD and even then you must take care. Sorry if I sound like your mum but there have been a few incidents this year of cars off the road, 2 in ditches and others causing chaos and delays. Please come prepared with shovel, chains and common sense. Another option is to share lifts - this is especially useful at busy times as parking is limited. Please look at the WSC facebook site where you might find someone from your own area and feel free to leave your own comments.
We welcome skiers and snowboarders alike and with me being in the latter camp I would not like to deter snowboarders as the terrain is ideally suited for us with lots of gullies, drop offs etc. However it is not an ideal place to learn to snowboard (or ski for that matter) but snowboarders never enjoy Poma tows and our tows are not easy for beginners. I would strongly encourage new snowboarders to get some practice using tow lifts before trying WSC.
Finally without wanting to "oversell" Weardale Ski Club it is always nice to be linked to our larger "rivals". We do get a mention on the really useful snow-forecast.com website and even get a free 6day forecast giving snowfall, temperatures etc at the top, mid station and bottom!!! Give it a look on - http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Swinhope/6day/mid
