Navigation Practice

Post by mike f »

Anyone fancy a day out doing a bit of Navigation practice.

Location would be Hamsterley forest, the aim would be to do a bit of revision (as required), and a couple of routes, using the parts of the orienteering course (but not as a race).

I can do Sat 23 Oct or Sun 24 Oct. Any takers and which day is preferred.

I'd be up for this - I guess assuming I can navigate my way to the right carpark this time! Saturday's better for me, but could do Sunday if that's good for other people. Cheers! Sue

Hello,
I'd be up for it as well but can only do Sat 23rd. To be honest I could do with a bit (or a lot?) of map & compass practice. Otherwise, I'll get lost one of these days

We will go with Saturday 23 Oct, meet at 1030.

We meet at Windy bank car park which is next to the children's adventure play park. Ignore the main parking areas down the hill and go past the cafe and shops over the sleeping policemen, and it is about 100m on the left.

I intend to get there a little earlier and will put up my big tent as a shelter, so look out for a light blue tent.

It costs £3 per car to get into Hamsterley Forest, so it is a good idea to car share.

You will need to bring your compass (I have a couple of spares if you dont have one), a packed lunch and wet weather gear (If it has been wet you may want to bring gaiters or Waterproof trousers for wading through damp undergrowth.

Post up if you are coming I need to know numbers to make sure we have enough maps.
So far we have: Sue, Anja, Les and Sharon.

As an alternative for the Ladies, they are running broomstick making classes, there, over the weekend
