Weardale Ski Club 15 Feb 09

The Weardale Ski Club Ltd

Sadly the fantastic run of great skiing weather seems to be coming to an abrupt end. Milder temperatures this weekend have seen the snow softening and melting. We have had a great weekend skiing but towards the end the snow was getting very wet and heavy. The bottom of F1 was more akin to water skiing later in the day - woe betide anyone who fell over at the bottom! There is still loads up there and the gullies are superb still, though becoming slow going. Rain and double digit temperatures are forecast for the next couple of days and I doubt we will get any more skiing in until the temperature falls again - shame as it was looking great for half term but we cannot complain can we! With all the comparisons we have had to the Alps recently it was interesting to see a mobile home parked up in the car park all weekend just like you see in the French resorts!

There have been one or two items of clothing left - children's ski mitts, Tibetan woolen hat - they are in the ticket office if anyone is missing them and if you let me know I will collect them. I also lost a pair of black snowboard mitts I think in the car park - if anyone finds an extra pair of mitts when they unpack please let me know - I need them for France in 2 weeks time!

Thanks for all your support and custom so far this season and lets hope we are nowhere near the end of it - in recent years some of the best snow has been in February and March. The record turnouts have ensured we survive for a good few years yet and have prompted quite a few more members to join. We are not back to the days of 600 or 700 members but slowly moving upwards again. If you value the club please consider joining if not already a member - it must represent the best value anywhere and there are all the other benefits of membership such as discounts at various outlets as well as belonging to a great outdoor club.
