Skiing - Weardale / Yad Moss Saturday 7th Feb

Post by pete »

A couple of us are planning on skiing next Saturday - either Weardale or Yad Moss depending on which one looks best beforehand - a fair bit of snow is forecast this week so should be good...

Any takers ? I would have room for a couple more people in the car - (I also have some snow chains!)

The Weardale Ski Club Ltd

Well there is certainly no shortage of snow at the moment. We have already had 14 days skiing this season and this current lot of snow should keep us going for a while. We have had over a foot of snow in Stanhope today and it is still snowing with a significant fall expected overnight. We are hoping to open tomorrow (tuesday) but access may be the biggest problem if the snow has drifted across the road. Hopefully the snow plough will visit tomorrow but we may need the snow blower. The earliest I can realistically see us getting open is 10:30 am and that depends on conditions so please check the answerphone before travelling. Wednesday looks promising as does the weekend!
If ever you need to pack a shovel and snow chains tomorrow is the day (though you should always carry them with you) - it may well be a challenge getting up there with chains - please drive sensibly, park sensibly not obstructing other cars or blocking farmers gates etc. When you arrive at the car park dig a space and "front in" at a 45 degree angle close up the the fence. If you are putting chains on the best place to do it is at the layby between the turn off from Daddry Shields and the sharp turn up to the slopes. A few people have tried reaching us directly from Teesdale over the gated road - DONT - you wont make it. Sat Nav says it is the quickest route but it is not gritted, ploughed or currently even visible!

I'd be up for skiing on sat (i'm away on sun). Anymore room in the car? I'd prefer Yad moss as i've never been and the website looks good!

Hi Anthony,

What's the place that hires out? Do they do Boards as well?

Me n' linz may be interested (Linz has her own Skis) and could then car share as well?

Ta,

Mike

The place is called High Plains Outdoor Centre. The telephone number is 01434 381886. You need to call to book the skis as they are going fast !
