February Day Activity

Post by Rich »

A long way off I know but if I don't get my arse into gear now it will be the last week of January and I'll be suggesting a trip to the cinema or something.

Three options.

1. Snow option - Sledge-cross! Like Skier/Boarder/Mountain cross but on a sledge. I'll find a suitable slope, build a few kickers, whoopees and a berm or two then we'll race for a bit then go to a pub or something.

2. No-snow option - The Innaugral Durham Mountain Sports Club 'Climbing' Competition(dont worry non-climbers, read on). This will take place at a local wall and will have nothing to do with how good a climber you are, it will involve teams having to answer outdoors related question, solve downright daft problems on the wall and also team exercises to overcome problems. Like I said, non-climbers DO NOT FEAR.

3. No one likes the other two option - A day walk in the lakes, route tba but will be suitable for everyone with some harder scramble/climbing bits that could be worked in/walked around.

Let me know what you all think.

The activity will be scheduled for either Saturday Feb 2nd or Sunday Feb 3rd, I guess there will be a cost if its at a climbing wall, if its the sledging one just bring a sledge and wrap up warm, if its the walk then suggest we sort out lift sharing etc. to keep the cost down.

Or we could all go for a run up a big hill or something.

Both ideas sound like fun! If it snows to order, you can always recycle the climbing event some other time... :D

But just to reinforce the point if theres a decent swell I will not be there either I'll be practicing my Occy impression but will inevitabley be eating reef and/or sand alot.

Come on Rich - Where's your community spririt? You don't have to live up to the surfer stereotype quite so spectacularly!

Surely just for one day you guys could give a committment that doesn't depend on whether or not there is a wave to ride?

 Unless you plan the climbing thing for Saturday evening - then go to the pub after? So it'll be dark anyways and there's no conflict of interest!

Maybe the sledge option could be up at the Weardale Ski club slopes above Daddry Shield - then if there is any snow people could ski/ snowboard too? (They have 2 poma lifts there - I think day membership is around £20.

Great, thanks for stepping in George, makes me feel a little less bad for being unable to fulfill the commitment.
