Potential New Member!

Post by Orphus »

Hi all,

Over the few years or so I've taken a keen interest in getting involved in outdoor sports, in particular Scuba and freediving although also done some hill walking including Scafell Pike and Snowdon. I did start some indoor climbing, but not having friends who shared my enthusiasm for this, it tailed off.

I'd really like to get back into climbing, my skills are basic as only been independently a handful of times and eventually transfer to outdoor climbing and lead climbing. I'd also love to learn some more mountain skill in particular scrambling and some winter skills.

I've read on the page about this not being a professional teaching club, but should I join in the hope of developing my skills in these areas under the wings of the experienced members, or should I be looking for specific professional courses in these areas?

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi J
We welcome members of all abilities, club members organise and participate in (but are certainly not limited to) walking, scrambling, skiing, climbing and mountain-biking activities. Our aim is for the more experienced club members to pass on their skills to the less experienced in any activity or to be able to recommend appropriate training.

Members are expected to supply their own suitable clothing and equipment for the relevant activity, we can offer advice of what and where to purchase any necessary stuff.

You will be able to pick up advice here and there by regularly joining in the activities, however if you want to gain your experience quicker a course will give you a head start.

You are more than welcome to have a chat at the pub night, our next one is Tuesday 8th (8pm Tap and Spile)

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply.

I have my own basic climbing kit (harness, belay, crab and shoes) and I think that's where I'd like to start.

I will come down to the club night tomorrow to find out more.

Thanks,

J

I got recommended i try you out by the people in Cotswold outdoor shop. I'm interested in getting back into walking again and just recently started climbing indoor walls again. It gets a bit boring doing it on your own so i thought i would see what its all about DMC

Hello,

I can certainly relate to climbing getting boring on your own! I've done a lot of hiking and I am a fairly novice climber but due to lack of interest from my friends, I would like to join the club to hopefully meet some like minded people and get the opportunity to get out and do some walking/ climbing. I'll be coming along to the next pub night on the 3rd September but I thought it best to introduce myself first.

Hi Laura

Thanks for your introduction, I always suggest booking up on a weekend trip as that a great way to get to know people. Just make yourself known at the pub night and someone will be able to give you the new members pack.
