Local walk - sat 8th dec

Post by pennyswaine »

I want to try a short local walk in the Bishop Auckland area around Auckland park. It's 6 miles and should take 3 hours. The plan is to start from the market place and follow a route given in the paper.
I'm aiming for a 10.30ish start so I can have lunch after and then go Xmas shopping.
It would be nice to have company if anyone would like to join me.

Okay...people interested so here goes with the detail.
Meet 10.30 in the centre of bishop Auckland. The map shows a visitor's centre and information. Grid ref - 212302.
The walk is an old paper walk mostly in Auckland Park on paths and track. The best bit is the wood by bellburn beck. Forecast is unbroken sunshine.
Please confirm if coming so I know to wait. Lunch and shopping after or just go home!!

Unlikely though it sounds the walk round bishop Auckland was lovely today. It climbed from the wear onto a ridge with superb views and then through a wood. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a shame absolutely no one else turned up!
I will keep posting the occasional local walk over the winter period so if interested watch out for the next one. My dog always enjoys them even if it is just me and him!
