Tiso Newcastle would like to invite you to: Bryony Balen Record Breaker
On January 20th 2012, Bryony Balen became the youngest Briton to reach the South Pole from the Hercules Inlet, having turned 21 on the 21st of December 2011. The incredible trek took a total of 56 days, a total distance of 1135km (705 miles) over the coldest environment on our planet.
Bryony has been mountaineering for many years and has climbed Mont Blanc and Mount Elbrus which is the highest mountain in Europe as part of her preparation for her record breaking adventure. Since achieving her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, Bryony continued to develop these skills and attributes which resulted in her drive to pursue ambitious trips such as a week Nordic skiing and camping in Svalbard as a taster for life in the Antarctic.
We are delighted that Bryony will be holding a presentation of the expedition, talking you through and showing you the equipment used, as well as holding a Q&A session.
