Looking at the forecast for the next few days it is going to be cold overnight so the ice that thawed may be freezing again - is anyone interested in a mornings ice climbing on sat at Bollihope Common (I don't know if it will have reformed sufficiently so has anyone taken a recent look?). Possibly those not interested in climbing (e.g. the rest of my family) could meet up for a walk and then we could retire en masse to the pub (black Bull) in frosterley (again don't know what it is like - is it child friendly?)

Paddy,
Seems like a good idea.
I'd come along, would love to have a good at the ice (if there is any!), if someone could lend me some technical tools (got everything else, incl a spare set of crampons).
I will dig out a map for a walk / plan B. What time were you thinking of getting there?

Mike F and I are going to meet in Wolsingham by the monument where the road from Tow Law comes in at 8.30am ish witha view to getting over to the quarries at Bollihope Common for a look at the ice. If it is good the we will try some climbing if not go for a wander. Others maybe be meeting for a walk at a later hour (Time 10.30am ish?) before retreating to a pub (Black Bull in frosterley) for some new year refreshment

Looks like Steve will also join us.
The quarry at Grid Ref NZ 007 349 has an number of spoil heaps which make an excellent site for sledging, if you fancy less strenous activity or want to take the kids
