The talk will raise funds for Community Action Nepal which is a UK based charity whose aim is to help some of the poorest people on the planet – the mountain people of Nepal.
A Crawl Down The Ogre
As evening fell on the 12th July 1977 Doug Scott and Chris Bonington stood on the summit of Baintha Brakk – the Ogre – having just made the first ascent. A few minutes later the mountain lived up to its name - as Doug part abseiled and part tensioned off the summit block, his feet skated on some verglas and he swung into a wall on the other side of the couloir, breaking both ankles. What followed over the next twelve days is one of the most remarkable stories of survival and team work that mountaineering has ever produced.
